And I didn’t even have to pay them to say this.

“The first time I had the pleasure of working with Mari was at KBCO in Boulder. Her resume was full of impressive television experience, but she wanted to make the shift back into the world of radio. I felt she was way overqualified for a weekend shift but because she had the kind of ‘delivery’ I was looking for, she got the job.

The second time our paths crossed I received a mysterious resume that was made up like a ransom note. Yes, once again Mari was looking to expand her radio experience and she was holding me up for a job on the morning show of a station we had just launched in Denver, 96.5 The Peak. I was impressed with her creativity and it was enough to get her back on the air as a partner with Pete MacKay.

Mari has that ‘delivery’ that I mentioned earlier. It’s what all program directors are looking for in radio personalities, the ability to connect one on one with the listener. Nothing forced, just a conversation with a friend. Her ability to tell stories in that conversational way made her a friend to many thousands of listeners. She was upbeat, positive, and just an awful lot of fun to listen to. She knows what she wants to communicate to people and she knows exactly how to do it.”

“Mari Davis - what does one say about a person you hear of and never believed existed? She does! I had the privilege – and luck – of working with one of the most talented, brilliant (Mensa), dedicated, witty, team players I have ever worked with. I was the General Manager of a new start-up radio station in Denver, Colorado – a very competitive market. I was asked to interview Mari by our Program Director for a very key position for morning co-host position. Frankly, I had other people in mind as we were teaming her with a very high profile host from a competitor and they did not know each other. She convinced me on the spot when she simply said, ‘Let's do it!’

We did, in a big way, and our new station quickly became a top-rated station from nowhere. Mari's role was critical in our success and we will be forever grateful. Putting it bluntly - I made the right decision and strongly recommend you do the same!”

“For three years Mari and I were co-hosts of a very successful morning show on radio station 96.5 The Peak in Denver. We spoke to, played music for, and entertained hundreds of thousands of radio listeners every day.

Mari was the glue that held the concept together. Her amazing interview skills and journalism background were the foundation of why we were so successful. We could relate to our audience and add to their knowledge base in a very entertaining way, because Mari had her finger on the pulse of the people. She could identify the important topics and she knew how to present them with an effective, compelling, and when necessary, entertaining approach.

I’ve seen Mari do everything from a spur-of-the-moment interview with then Colorado Governor Roy Romer, as he was taking an ice cream break at the airport, to swapping one-liners with Jay Leno, live on the air. From co-anchoring a charity radio-thon, to discussing the concept of Cherry Garcia with Ben and Jerry, Mari can do it all. And the proof is her success.”

“As the Promotions and Marketing Director in the highly competitive world of commercial radio in Denver, I relied heavily on the on-air personalities to set us apart from the rest of the radio options. I had the pleasure of working with the best at doing this at 96.5 The Peak. In working with the best there was a standout: Mari. She was a pleasure to work with and we worked very closely together.

The motto at 96.5 was 'The Peak is everywhere' and we were. Mari made countless public appearances for me and never failed to win over every potential listener at the venue/event. She is a dynamic people person. She quickly became one of our most requested personalities for on-site appearances.

Her warm style and intellectual interview techniques are apparent in the interviews she generates. People open up to Mari resulting in extremely compelling stories. In radio, you have to help the listener visualize the interviewee and their situation. Mari is a master at this.

As the new station on the Denver scene, we had to do more things and do them better. Mari was always there with countless creative ideas of how we could turn a normal radio promotion into something spectacular… a recycle your phone book campaign became winning a prize for tossing your phonebook the furthest into the recycling dumpster, a sneak movie preview became a theme night relating to the movie. She didn't just come up with the ideas, she helped to make them happen from generating leads for venues and food to convincing a hardware store to give out free smoke detectors after the tragic loss of a family to a house fire without detectors.

Everyone involved with bringing The Peak to Number One worked at 110 percent. Mari was no exception. Her organization and attention to detail made my job easier. I could always count on Mari to do what she said she would, when she said she would.

Her background in radio, television and marketing give her a unique perspective as well as a unique skill set. She understands the visual, audio and on-line markets. Not many folks possess the vision and experience in all three.

I value the time I spent working with and learning from Mari. I know that any employer or fellow employee would find an association with Mari to be equally rewarding.”

“I've known Mari for almost 30 years now. I sat beside her in the midst of the mayhem of a TV newsroom, where I could always count on her to provide an island of calm and good humor, and where everyone in the room knew they could depend on her if they needed help. She was truly a team player.

I have called upon her to provide both gravitas and entertainment – she is expertly capable at both – as host at various fund-raisers, and I have also depended upon to her come to my rescue when I was unable to fly to New York or LA to cover the interviews for a new movie release. My goal as an interviewer has always been to go for the deeper and usually unasked questions (the NPR-type questions, if you will) – questions that would make my audience, and the movie stars themselves, think.

Mari is a natural at going for the smarter questions. She never disappointed me. She produced fascinating interviews that were, in all honesty, often more interesting than anything I might have come up with.

As she was in the TV newsroom, she was also focused and unflappable in interviews no matter who the star happened to be – sitting across from John Travolta, or Nicolas Cage, or Pierce Brosnan. She even managed to outwit and charm the most torturously difficult actors, such as Walter Matthau.

Mari is also a scrupulously honest and principled professional. I don't know if she will mention this in her cover letter, but she left a very lucrative on-air, news position at a television station in Denver for ethical reasons. Having known her for as long as I have, I wasn't really surprised. She had been offered a quarter of a million dollar anchor position at the station, and because of management's swaying from their stated ethics, she felt she could not be a part of it (or of what TV had become, in general). In my opinion, it was a huge loss for TV, as she was one of the sharpest and best reporters I've ever encountered.

I was not alone in this view. I once ran into a reporter from Dateline NBC, who had worked with Mari in Denver, and when we realized our shared connection with Mari, he shook his head and said that in fifteen years in the business, he had never known any reporter who could think on her feet more clearly than Mari, and with so much wit.

“I have had the distinct pleasure of collaborating with Mari Davis on a number of projects. Over the past few years I have come to admire her ability to move seamlessly through any situation, adapting to a multitude of industries and demographics. In each and every situation Mari navigates the different personalities and knows how to get to the essence of the subject; she expertly (and gently) prods and probes until she gets the necessary information to clearly communicate to the audience exactly what they need (want) to know.

Even more impressive to me is her ability to manage a project, keeping it on track and on budget every single time. I work with a lot of creative collaborators in my day-to-day business as the owner of a web and graphic design business. It is a pleasure to work with someone who I can always count on to be creative, competent, and a consummate professional. I can’t say enough about Mari!”

“I know this, Mari. You are one of if not the most competent professional I have worked with in my career. You promise and deliver within budget. “Working with Mari was easy. Recording the audio content for my website was much more enjoyable than I ever expected because of her interviewing skills and relaxed yet precise manner.

She has a very good ear for how information comes across, so we could catch and redo anything I said that ‘didn’t come out right.’ Her directions to me were very clear, so I always knew what we were aiming for even though we were working via telephone.

As far as my web site goes, the interview we did is the second most visited page. New clients have told me they just had to call after listening to the ‘radio’ interview. They feel like they know me a little, so taking the next step to call isn’t that big a leap, which has helped me become more accessible to new clients.”

“It always lifted my day when I would spend my commute listening to Mari and Pete's show. Mari’s quick wit, intelligent comments, blended with the right amount of humor, pathos, passion and professionalism, made the craziness of the world around you more understandable and you just felt better about what was ahead for your day.”
